Duck time again
It’s Friday which means it’s swimming lessons for JD & K. JD will be under the water pretending to be a duck with his legs in the air and K will be pretending to be a rock star [somehow] while doing her strokes. What a normal bunch of kids we have.
They had mufti day at school today and K chose rock star Hanna Montana aka Mylie Cyris – the pics show it all. JD hadn’t thought of anything so I decided on Robbie Williams from his hit Let Me Entertain You, perfect for JD.
Horse riding has been non-existant over the past week due to rain always seeming to come down on the day – K was in tears Sun morning as her planned morning with the horses had to be cancelled as pretty strong wind & rain came down early and they don’t do the normal in that weather. Yesterday also cancelled and moved hopefully to Sunday – the forecast looks good so holding thumbs.
JD won the trophy again last Sat at soccer – for goalkeeping. Showed his team mate how to play in goals, where to stand etc. If that’s where he is happy to play, then that’s where he’ll be encouraged to play. Most of the parents just encourage them playing and hope they have fun. There were a few at the start that would just stand and cry most of the game – better now.
Hopefully the pleurisy has had it’s time and although still feeling a little niggle, it seems to have passed. I’ll give it another 2 weeks to be sure and then head back into training. Not that anything is happening at the club anyway – still on contact via email to a few and we’ll all be back in a month or so.
Kim – well-cleaning, shopping, kids, running around, crosswords on google, CSI. Had a hip injury that didn’t settle after some walking/jogging and now back at x-rays and appears opposite side might also be inflamed to compensate for right side – back to physio today, so we’ll see.
It’s almost 12pm and no call from the school to collect JD – lets hope he has a full day with no mud slips [we know it was a slide!].
They both excelling at school and K gets an award at the end of term assembly next week – not sure exactly what for but teacher said we must be there – she’s going to be so stoked.
Mexican restaurant for dinner tonight – yup, finally going back to Orewa’s favourite. Wonder what Kim’s going to order to drink….
All quiet
All’s pretty quiet at the moment. Everything seems to have slowed down a little as winter starts to bite. We say winter but reality is the coldest day we have had has been around 14-16deg as a high and maybe 7 as a low. The rain has tried to pick up a bit as there has been little rain over the last season, in fact a 77 year low. Talk about New Zealand and everyone is quick to talk about the weather and the constant rain – in two years, we’ve yet to experience any of the “talk” and maybe, that’s all it really is. What’s slowing everything down is the late start to the day and the early end – kids starting school at 9 and by the time they get home after 3, it’s lunch, homework and by 5:15 it’s getting dark. Once daylight saving kicks in around Sept, then people will come alive again.
The running club has been very quiet. A few injured members and lots of lazy members! On Wed we still not getting people and I have changed the time to 5pm to suit me more and Sun still at 8am [which some say is too early?] There were three of us on Sunday’s run and thankfully, even after some lazy days for me, I’m still pretty fit. Picked up a rib/chest injury last week which I still can’t shake but thumps up from doc, so we carry on.
K still doing fantastic at horse riding [see new pics] and JD well, “fast and furious”. Work wise still pushing for a mid July launch and have branding, web and legal doing there thing. Kim at lunch with the ladies, where else?
June already
It’s not only June but the 8th.
Finally went for a little fish with K midday but there were none to be found. Maybe the water was too cold or there was a pary upstream? We tried to bring them in closer with some bread-birley but didn’t work. Some we win, some we just have fun in the sun. JD was at home on the couch with mom watching tv.
Yesterday was a day of sports. First JD in the morning – was keen and after plenty fun running around, by the time game time was on, he was back in the goals not too interested. Came out a few times, scored twice and waited for the final whistle. Maybe the choc & hot chips after is what he really goes for? At 12 I took Dylan to his soccer game in Birkenhead [40min from here] as Deb was at her welding course [yup, welding] and Wayne was at work. I thought I would watch a little and landed up getting quite into the game-shouting where to run, where to look, tactics at half time – very keen to get the boots back on. The team are mostly “oldies” like me> Got home in time for my fishing programs on tv from 4:30 to 6 [3 different shows] and finished in time before guests arrived for All Blacks v Ireland game.
Why can’t we just have a normal “braai”? WHY? Lee mentioned an old drinking rule about getting a penalty when drinking with your right hand – then I HAD TO come back with the story of the 100-club – 100 tots of beer in 100 minutes. You sit at a table, there is a time keeper and on the minute, every minute for 100 minutes, you drink a tot of beer. You are not allowed to eat or leave the table for anything. Lee, Wayne & Quinton loved the idea and ah, that’s easy! After a little debate, the ladies took over the braai, I nominated myself timekeeper as there was no ways I was playing [remember what happened when I was 18 and in those days I could drink] and they were seated at the table.
Quinton lasted until 67 and had to run for a wee – OUT. Lee was swimming at around 80 and his eyes watering…Wayne just needed a smoke. 100 minutes later and Wayne & Lee made it – Lee with a dart for a wee, Wayne on the balcony for a puff. 100 tots is around 7 beers which in a night is easy for them – limited to a tot a minute, different story. Wayne was walked home not too long after and missed dinner, Quinton absorbed all the tots in 3 plates of food and Lee had us in stitches until midnight, waiting for his birthday.
As for the rugby, I watched at 8-8 and 21-11, that was about it. It was supposed to be a quiet dinner over the first test>why?
The week otherwise was pretty normal – school, homework, swimming, horse riding, working, meetings, shopping. The highlight was a quote for our new website = $60,000k. Don’t think I’ll be signing too quickly.
